The big debate question was all set, we had the 'for' seat which makes life a lot easier:



This house believes that the rights of criminals should be set aside to protect the rights of law abiding citizens



I managed to argue seven points where the rights of the criminal could be morally and humanely postponed until the safety of the public could be guaranteed



I had a secret weapon. I spread a rumour that one part of my argument I had made up and I had no source to cite - I had hoped that I would be challenged so I could casually pull out the source book with as much innocence as I could manage. The other team captain either hadn't heard my rumour or was too good to fall for that.



She tried to bring in an emotional plea about mentally ill people being put in jail - I used one of my three allowed counter questions to ask "what had the mentally ill people done to an innocent person to get put in jail ?" then I sat down. The silence was eerie hahahahaha



[if she's reading this, I was ready to argue that insane people are not capable, in law, of committing a crime and should be excluded from the debate on a point of order, but it was more fun to watch you squirm]



Anyhow we timed out and were victorious and then some ... the motion was carried 46 : 5 with no-one abstaining.



We all stopped at McD for a celebration thick shake and the captain formally stood down - I manfully stepped up and with a show of hands got my captaincy.



Then I came on VR to tell the world to find the new VR database coming to life. It is 110% awesome, needs a little manual tweaking to lift things out of where they had been auto-dumped but its soooo epic



Got to bed at 1am - Lucky its a week holiday here in the UK

Today I had a letter from Nooska



For those of you that don't know, I have adopted a part of a wolf at Bristol Zoo - I don't know which part, but as I was the first to pay when he was a cub, I got to name him :)



I have to say that his typing and English is pretty good for a wolf. He's doing good, thanks me for helping him out, he's had a cold, weighs 14.2 Kg and eats a bunch



OK I'm not really that stupid but clearly whoever writes on his behalf thinks I am, they actually want me to write back!

The debate question is 'in the post'



The debating team captain is stepping down after this one and I am the vice captain.



I was passed over last time (I am not bitter but a lot of paperclips went through the shredder than night) and I am going to try again for the captain post.



I have researched the two debate areas like until there is simply nothing left to know - all I need is the actual question to form my arguments around.



There are four other people who have shown an interest. One is a no-hope (sorry Khris) but the other three are actually really good.

Yesterday was a good day *nods*, parental units sat around and we had great discussion about forum posts, was good - a little confusing at one point but was good. I am sure step dad is going to open a PM account here, simply because sometimes, rather than just helping me with that exact phrase I need, he will have his own opinion !!! pffft if he wants one of them, he had best get his own soapbox hehehe



Today was 'different' for me. Two great people here on VR got promoted, its been the first really major upheaval to affect me since I joined VR two years ago - I like cosy comfort of unchanging stuff, but change happens I guess. Dunno how I feel really ....
